What is a Special Needs Trust?

Transcript

Speaker 1: A special needs trust, also known as a supplemental needs trust, is a trust in to which you place someone's inheritance so that they will not be denied public benefits. The trust language specifically states that the money can only be used for things that governmental entities and programs are not already providing, and that's why it could be called supplemental. It means supplemental needs such as clothing, braces, education, things that are not provided by the public benefits.
