What Rights do Nursing Home Residents Have?

Transcript

Speaker 1: Nursing home residents have all liberties and religious freedoms and rights that everybody else has. If they're in the nursing home they have the right to have visitation at reasonable hours, they have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, they can keep the door to their room closed unless there's a medical necessity to keep it open. Their mail should not be opened, mail that's received or sent. They have the right to have religious people come in to see them, medical personnel, the ombudsman, which is a person who oversees the conditions in the nursing home, and they have the right to make decisions and have input into all decisions about what's being done to them.
